State Russian Museum is a biggest collection of art in St. Petersburg and one of the biggest museums in country. A lot of famous russian artist’s paintings are here. This is second ‘must see’ place after Hermitage: you definitely should visit State Russian museum even if you are in St. Petersburg just for one day. Museum usually has several extra expositions available with an extra ticket bought at the place. Unfortunately they don’t sell tickets online.

Famous Russian artists

Bryullov, Repin, Vasnetsov, Surikov, Aivazovsky, Kustodiev, Serov, Shishkin and famous Kazimir Malevich (and his ‘Black Square’ is here as well). This is not the full list of famous names, not even close.

407 533 items in museum’s collection

An impressive number, isn’t it? Unfortunately most of those items sit in a storage, but the most beautiful and well-known ones are at the exposition!

Great place

Building and it’s interiors are awesome because it is a Mihailovsky palace (plus a Benois wing connected to it by a corridor). The location is awesome: it is on the Arts Square, along with other museums, theatres and a beautiful small park.
