You have to know Russian to understand what a great poet was Pushkin. But he is good enough even in translation. He was not only a famous poet, but also a political prisoner: he spent several years in exile (but luckily was never inprisoned). This museum is a flat where he lived his last years until his tragic death on a duel. A museum is not very big, but really interesting by two reasons: first is Pushkin and his life and second is the life noble people had in the beginning of XIX century. Finally, this place has a beatiful courtyard so you can just come in to walk around it.

First half of 19th century interiors

Puskin’s flat is perfectly preserved and stuffed with original items. It is so interesting to see how people lived at that time! The interior design is great too so maybe you will even find some interesting idea for your home.

Poet’s tragic death happened here

Puskin was known as a passionate and extremely jealous person. Frankly speaking, he was quite a prick. He was involved in 26 duels. 21 of them were cancelled. 4 of them had some guns fired but noone was wounded. But the last one was fatal. A French officer was paying too much attention to Pushkin’s wife so they had a duel. Pushkin was deadly wounded: a bullet broke his hip and entered the abdomen. Pistols of that time don’t look serious but in close combat they hit like nowaday’s large caliber rifles so duel wounds were terrible. 50 or 70 years later this wound probably could be cured, but at Pushkin’s time it was 100% fatal. So a famous poet died of peritonitis in his flat two days later at the age of 37.
