The State Academic Mariinsky (ex. Kirov) Ballet and Opera Theatre is known worldwide as the main theatre of Saint Petersburg and probably even of Russia. World’s most famous actors, ballet dancers and opera singers performed here. For over a 100 years of history this theatre grew up famous artists like Feodor Chaliapin and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Mariinsky theatre’s conductor is Valery Gergiev, a famous musician, main director of the London Symphonic orchestra. Now Mariinskiy theatre has 2 buildings (the new building is known as “new stage” or “second stage” or even Mariinskiy II).

Marvellous buildings

The old building (main scene) is old and beautiful, but small. The new scene’s outside look is nothing special, but inside it is just marvellous! Just look at the photos of it’s amber walls. Both buildings are open, they are even connected by a special bridge between them.

Tickets available online

You can get tickets online thanks to the Internet. They are quite expensive, but it is nearly impossible to buy them at cheaper price online without knowing Russian and paying in rubles.

Dress code

Please wear a dark formal suit and a tie or an evening dress in this theatre. Formal shoes are also required. Unfortunately looking formal here is a must.

Address 2: Dekabristov street 34  (new building)

Both buildings stand wall to wall so you won’t be mistaken for sure.
